Rubio is a Leader on Western Hemisphere Issues

Colombian-Americans in Florida, we have a lot at stake in the midterm elections

The Biden Administration, despite having a Colombian-American serving as National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere, has repeatedly failed our community. As the midterm elections nears, we must remain wary of what’s at stake not only for us as Floridians but also for our compatriots back at home in Colombia.

Time after time, Marco Rubio has proven to be a voice of support for the people of Colombia and our bilateral relationship between both countries. Marco’s direct link to our homeland, considering his wife Jeanette is a Colombian-American herself, has made the issue of Colombia personal for him. He understands our concerns and fears as we face the complexity of a far-left president in Colombia. In his time in Congress, Rubio has never backed down from raising his voice when we’ve needed him the most.

As a Colombian-American who resides in Florida, there was no greater disgrace and insult than the recent measure the Biden administration took to remove FARC terrorists from the State Department’s Foreign Terrorist Organization list. This was a slap in the face of the many fallen victims and individuals forced into exile by this Marxist guerilla group and who now live in Florida and the U.S. I was proud to hear Senator Rubio’s strong stance and leadership about the repercussions this disastrous decision would inflict on both Colombia and for the United States.

Val Demings has never so much as issued a single press release on the issue of Colombia in her time in Congress–despite having a large number of Colombian-Americans residing in her Orlando district! It’s clear Colombian-Americans wouldn’t be represented by an individual who only went to Twitter to mention Colombia after she announced her candidacy to the U.S. Senate.
