Murphy: Demings’ Vote Could Make Pain at the Pump ‘More Severe’ for Floridians

May 20, 2022

MIAMI, FLA. — Val Demings voted for the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act yesterday, and even fellow Florida Democrat Stephanie Murphy knows it was a bad move that won’t ease the pain at the pump for American families.

Murphy hits the nail on the head
“This bill takes the wrong approach. The reason that gas prices are rising is demand exceeds supply, and so the way to bring down prices is to increase supply. If this bill becomes law, it could further reduce supply.
“At best, this bill is a distraction that won’t actually address the problem. At worst, it could make the problem more severe. As economist Larry Summers put it, this legislation ‘can cause and contrive all sorts of shortages.’”

“Even fellow Florida Democrat Stephanie Murphy knows Val Demings’ vote will increase the cost of gas. To make matters worse, Demings just can’t seem to find the words to tell Joe Biden to unleash American oil production. In Demings’ six year tenure in Congress, she has repeatedly voted for Green New Deal-type policies that decrease American oil production and increase our reliance on foreign oil, and it will cost her in November,” said Elizabeth Gregory, Communications Director for Marco Rubio for Senate.

Val Demings:Refuses to call for unleashing American oil production or condemn Biden officials’ talks with Maduro’s narco-regime. Championed Biden’s multi-trillion dollar Build Back Socialist agenda. Cosponsored $10 Trillion Climate Agenda to “Transform Our Country.”Voted to add a $10.25 per barrel tax on oil. Endorsed by the pro-Green New Deal League of Conservation Voters PAC.
