Obamacare is more than a political debate – it is a failed law that is hurting Floridians. Premiums are skyrocketing, taxes have gone up, and small businesses are struggling with the law’s confusing rules and regulations. Although Hillary Clinton and Democrats in Congress are doubling down on Obamacare, Marco believes we can do better.
Since joining the Senate, Marco has worked tirelessly to repeal Obamacare and enact real health care reform that empowers patients, creates competition, and increases coverage while reducing costs. He is among the only members of Congress to strike a blow against Obamacare, having led efforts to stop a backdoor bailout of insurance companies, saving taxpayers over $2 billion. Marco is committed to ending the government takeover of our health care system and putting in place reforms that empower patients, not the federal government.
Repeal Obamacare. In addition to fighting for Obamacare repeal, Marco supports efforts to end harmful pieces of the law, such as its massive cuts to Medicare Advantage, tax hikes, and restrictions on Flexible Savings Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
Enact Consumer-Centered Reforms to Expand Coverage and Lower Costs
- Expand access to affordable, quality health coverage by providing every American with an advanceable, refundable tax credit that can be used to purchase insurance and that increases every year.
- Reform insurance regulations by putting protections in place to ensure those with pre-existing health conditions can get access to affordable coverage, and allow individuals to purchase insurance in any state.
- Expand access to consumer-centered products like FSAs and HSAs that empower consumers and reduce taxes.
- Promote innovation in the Medicaid program by giving states a per-capita block grant, which preserves funding for Medicaid’s unique populations while freeing states from Washington mandates.
Save Medicare from Bankruptcy. Over 4 million Floridians benefit from Medicare, but the program is careening toward bankruptcy. To save Medicare, Marco supports reasonable reforms to the program without making any changes for those in retirement (like his mother), or those nearing retirement, including enacting premium support, giving seniors a generous amount with which to purchase health care, either from Medicare or a private provider of their choice.
